Gary started boxing eaarly in his Army career, having his first competitive bout in 1982. He boxed at welter and middle weight whilst still in the military.

After leaving the services Gary tried various different ways of keeping fit and tried a number of different gyms before finding TKO whilst they were in Parkwood in Maidstone.

Since this time he progressed to his 1st Dan Black Belt, having his last competitive bout in December 2018. He then decided to hang up his gloves and is now involved with the TKO Amateur Boxing Club, having achieved his Level 2 England Boxing Coach Award.
